Custom Harmonicas

"I purchased Two MBD with corian combs from Hetrick. MBD Bb and F and received the first one yesterday the Bb, all I can say is WOW, UNBELIEVABLE!!! I am very awe-struck about my new harp... I never thought that it would be so loud, easy to play and very, very responsive compared to my non customized harps. Great customer service, Matthew kept me informed and made me feel very comfortable. And the looks of the corian combs are outstanding."

CUSTOM MARINE BAND DELUXE

Custom Special 20 Harmonica

I offer 30+ harmonica comb choices including DuPont™ Corian® , Dymondwood, and Bamboo Harmonica Combs

Why Buy a Custom Harmonica?

Well, the first reason is it plays alot better. All those hard bends and hard to reach overblows are much easier. 2nd, they last a lot longer than the typical stock harmonica. There are several trade secret things I do (as do other harmonica builders) that make the reeds last longer. So, in the long run you may pay more up front, but less down the road. I speak with many people that are going through harmonicas every few months. A local player in Atlanta gigs every week with my harps and they last a couple of years!

Why Does it Cost More?

Custom is synonymous with cost in any industry. The higher quality parts are more expensive and also I spent 5-10 hours on each harmonica. So that time has to be covered! Really, if you look at the actual time spent it is worth much more, but no one would buy custom harps if they were 400 dollars. Plus, I spent time with every customer throughout the process to make sure they are updated on the progress and that the customer is setup for their needs.

Does everyone need a custom harmonica?

Of course not. If you are a beginner a Special 20 harmonica will do just fine. But after some time, you may want to make the investment. I recently had a student that came to me because he was frustrated with bending. So I taught him for a while and then he stilled struggled. So I opened that sucker up and customized the reeds. After that he nailed the 3 bend. Need I say more? It's good to start with major keys like C, D, A, etc. I personally believe that the quality of your instrument can make a difference. Also, if you take lessons from me I can do some setup during our lesson time. Otherwise, you will have to order over the net.

How to Order: 50% deposit due upon order, the rest billed when completed. PLEASE CONTACT US BY EMAIL or PHONE so we can discuss your needs prior to placing an order.

Timeline: Current delivery time is 30-45 days depending on how many orders I have.

Repairs: Repair work is only available on my custom harmonicas or if you are a student sitting in my studio. There is a small charge for a full re-tuning and replacing reeds. My track record on these is excellent; very few reed blow outs and harps stay in tune for a long time. Sorry no chromatic work!
